Wrapping up the 2005 Training Year

"Another successful and fruitful training year is behind us. I know 2006 is going to be just as productive."
NVTI Director Steve Chapman

The year 2005 proved to be a busy, productive time for NVTI. Over 2,100 participants were trained, either in the classroom, on the road, via e-learning methods or in conferences. One of NVTI's newer courses, Promoting Partnerships for Employment, really took off in '05 with 240 veterans representatives receiving training. Five federal training sessions were held; two USERRA Basics, two Investigators and one VEOA.

Some of the other highlights of the year were:

  • A special TAP training was held in Oregon at the Salem Army Reserve Base to quickly train personnel in setting up and conducting transition assistance workshops. Several hundred service members were due back in at the base following a tour in Iraq.
  • Representatives from the Government Accounting Office (GAO) came to NVTI.
  • NVTI Trainers traveled to Semach Air Base near Kaiserslautern, Germany in May and Seoul, Korea in July to conduct TAP training.
  • Congressional representatives of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees visited the Institute.
  • NVTI hosted the Competitive Grantees Annual Training Conference with over 300 attendees. Among the guests was Congressman John Boozman, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
  • A marketing CD promoting the TAP Facilitator website was distributed nationwide.
  • The Ultimate Job Search for the 21st Century was scripted and scenes were shot, as well as creation of a new on-line workbook.
  • NVTI participated in the NASWA Veterans Committee conference in Savannah, Georgia.
  • Course revisions began on the Partnerships class, TAP and LES course.
  • Various NVTI trainings on the road were held in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
  • The year ahead promises to be full of activity. Look for updates and news on the NVTI homepage, future VETS NET issues, and Flash email news releases.

It was a great 2005 and as always, an honor to work with the dedicated men and women who serve our veterans and transitioning service members.
