TRANSITION ASSISTANCE

In order to best assist uniformed service members prepare to transition to the civilian workforce, the Department of Defense and the Department of Labor have created a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Manual. The manual is designed to be used in facilitated workshops but may also be used on a individual basis.

Information contained in the Manual includes Labor Market Information, assessment of skills and competencies, and up to date information on veterans benefits.  Workshop participants learn how to write effective resumes and cover letters; how to interview for jobs; and the best methods for actually searching for jobs.  They also learn about resources to help them look for jobs such as America's Job Bank and America's Talent Bank. 

Comparability of Military and Civilian Training
Although military education and training may not be as widely recognized as the more traditional civilian forms, it often meets the same rigorous standards. Over the years, the military has increasingly modeled its education and training programs after comparable civilian programs. For example, in the healthcare field, many, if not most, of the training programs offered by the military services have been adapted to meet the accreditation standards of civilian accrediting agencies and most have actually attained accreditation.
